Billy McFarland, who swindled music fans out of millions of dollars in 2017, announces Fyre Festival 2
Fyre Festival's website says it will take place on Dec. 6, 2024, but does list the lineup. McFarland claims that the first round of tickets is already sold out.
Billy McFarland's name made headlines five years ago when he was convicted on charges related to his participation in the 2017 musical event Fyre Festival. The festival was a massive flop and became noteworthy for a subsequent Netflix documentary about its failure. Now, after serving time in federal prison, McFarland has resurfaced with a similar idea.
McFarland said on his Instagram account that tickets for "Fyre Festival 2" are already on sale, and on Tuesday he claimed that the first round of tickets was already sold out. "It has been the absolute wildest journey to get here, and it really all started during a seven-month stint in solitary confinement," McFarland said in a video he posted on social media.
In addition, he maintained that he made a detailed plan for the new festival. Fyre Festival 2, according to McFarland, will be held in the Caribbean sometime in late 2024. The festival’s website says that it will be held on Dec. 6, 2024, but does not offer information about the lineup. In addition, tickets that will be "available soon" are priced at $799.
"Since 2016 FYRE has been the most talked about festival in the world. We now saw this convert to one of the highest priced GA pre-sales in the industry," McFarland wrote on Instagram.
Billy McFarland co-founded the 2017 edition of Fyre Festival. According to authorities, he defrauded investors of at least $27.4 million by marketing and selling tickets to the festival and other events. After pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud in March 2018, he was sentenced to six years in prison. He was released at the end of March 2022 after serving more than four years of his sentence.
