Milei's speech at the UN: 'The State does not create wealth, it steals it, it destroys it'

During his speech, the president of Argentina lashed out against the United Nations saying that it "pretends to decide not only what each state or nation should do, but also each of the individuals in the different latitudes of the planet."

This Wednesday, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, lashed out at the UN, accusing it of having become a "supranational government of international bureaucrats" that seeks to impose a way of life on the entire world.

"This is how we went from an organization that pretended to mediate peace between peers to an organization that pretends to decide not only what each state or nation should do, but also each and every individual in the different latitudes of the planet."

The libertarian leader called for a "back to basics" founding of the organization: "I think I speak for everyone when I say that we would like the UN to lead this paradigm shift, returning to the foundations that have made it the great organization it was in the past.

The Agenda 2030, a lack of common sense

Milei also criticized the Agenda 2030 as a waste of resources and an attack on personal freedom, and considered it "inadmissible to resort to force where reasons fail", in allusion to the progressive ideas lacking in sense.

Praise for Donald Trump

The president made a prominent mention to the Republican leader, in a complimentary tone and aligned with his political vision.

"President Trump in the United States also understands that it is time to reverse a dynamic that was leading the United States to a catastrophe, and we know that a catastrophe in the United States is a global catastrophe," Milei told the assembly.

The Argentine president, recently benefited by a financial backing granted by the Trump Administration, highlighted the measures adopted by his counterpart to combat illegal immigration and "restructuring, without precedent, of the terms of international trade".

In defense of the free market

During his speech, Milei also defended the free market and the importance of private property as pillars of the economic progress of nations.

"The condition of growth is the sacredness of property and of the free market, which is nothing other than free cooperation between peers. Because without property rights, there is no savings; without savings and the ability to exchange them freely, there is no investment; and without investment, no growth is possible," he sentenced.

"The greatest manifestation of that is those countries that show an orgy of increased public spending as the state does not create wealth, but steals it, but rather destroys it."

For those kidnapped by terrorist regimes

The Argentine president asked the international community to join the call for the release of the gendarme Nahuel Gallo, whom he described as a victim of a "kidnapping" and arbitrary detention in Venezuela, without formal charges or access to legal defense or consular assistance.

"It is a forced disappearance," he said,  while demanding the regime of Nicolas Maduro the release of the gendarme, detained since December 2024.

The Argentine president also called for the release of the Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas in Gaza.

The return of the Malvinas Islands

He also reiterated the claim for the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, describing their occupation as illegal.

"I would like to reiterate our legitimate and unrenounceable claim over the sovereigntyof the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas that remain illegally occupied."
