Donald Trump announced a new trade deal with the United Kingdom. In the midst of his participation in the G7, organized in Canada, the president reached an agreement in key areas such as automobiles, steel, aluminum, and aerospace. Trump and his counterpart, Keir Starmer, celebrated the agreement before reporters present in the province of Alberta.
According to the White House, the agreement will provide U.S. companies with "unprecedented access to British markets," also strengthening "U.S. national security and the U.S. economy." In turn, they noted that the UK will remove trade barriers for many US exports.
This is Trump's first meeting with G7 leaders since his return to the White House. In addition to the United States and the United Kingdom, this group of countries is composed of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan.
As for the trade agreement, it was announced by Trump and Starmer, who appeared together before members of the press present in Canada.
"We have our trade agreement with the European Union, and it's a fair deal for both. It's going to produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income. And we have many, many other ones coming. But you see, the level of enthusiasm is very good. But the relationship that we have is fantastic. So I just want to congratulate you," Trump said, already with the text in hand.
"Donald, thank you very much. This now implements agreements on auto and aerospace tariffs, a really important deal. And so this is a very good day for both of our countries, a real sign of strength. So thank you again, Donald, a really important day for both of us," added Starmer, who shook hands with his counterpart before taking the floor.
