Shooting in Bielefeld, Germany
A shooting in the vicinity of a regional court located in the city of Bielefeld, Germany, left several people injured, though the exact number has not been specified.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. local time. Authorities reported three shots that hit several people who were at the scene. Initial investigations suggest that among the wounded were family members of the defendant who was appearing in court.
The shooter was arrested and, for the moment, it was ruled out that it was a terrorist attack. It is suspected that there was a second attacker who fled before being neutralized.
In recent months, Germany has been the target of terrorist attacks. In December, in Magdeburg, a Saudi-born terrorist rammed into a crowd at the city's Christmas market. Five people were killed and as many as 60 to 80 were injured.
On Feb. 13, in Munich, an attack similar to the one in Magdeburg took place. A terrorist ambushed a group of people in a central area of the city, leaving 28 people injured, two of them seriously.
Eight days later, this time in the capital of Berlin, a Syrian refugee stabbed a Spanish tourist at the Holocaust Memorial monument. According to authorities, the terrorist's intention was to "kill Jews."
