This Tuesday, Donald Trump shared an image of Coristine's injuries on Truth Social and called for these minors in the nation's capital to be tried as adults.
"The Law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute these 'minors' as adults, and lock them up for a long time, starting at age 14," the Republican wrote, mentioning his proposal to take federal control of Washington, D.C.
"If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that they’re not going to get away with it anymore," the president added.
At the White House, speaking Tuesday in front of banners adding the presidential seal to the Olympics LA28 logo, Donald Trump reiterated his willingness to take federal control of the capital.
Likewise, Elon Musk, who was chief advisor to the DOGE, confirmed the attack on X and seconded Trump's proposal: "It is time to federalize DC," he proclaimed.
According to reports, crime dropped in Washington by 35% in 2024 from the previous year, marking a 30-year low. District data also shows that violent crime is also down so far in 2025 compared to 2024.
However, several incidents, such as the murder of a congressional intern and the separate homicide of two Israeli embassy officials in downtown Washington, have rekindled a sense of insecurity on the streets of the capital.
