The Trump administration announced Tuesday the delivery of a new treatment against HIV to two African countries, Zambia and Esuatini.

Around 1,000 doses of the drug Lenacapavir were shipped to both countries on Tuesday. They will begin to be delivered later this week, according to Peter Sands, executive director of the Global Fund, which will collaborate with the government in the shipment and administration of the drug.

Department of State International Aid Coordinator Jeremy Lewin reported that the Trump administration plans to fund two million doses for low- and middle-income African countries by 2028.

The official even believes that this goal may be reached sometime in 2027, AFP reported.

Lenacapavir, marketed under the brand name Yeztugo, is a new injectable HIV treatment that only requires two doses a year, which is a big improvement over other treatments with daily pills, according to experts.
