DHS to forgive fines for failure to leave the country for undocumented immigrants who self-deport

The Department of Homeland Security insisted that illegal aliens who use the CBP Home mobile app to self-deport will also receive free rides to their home countries and a $1,000 departure bonus, payable once their return is confirmed through the website.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that undocumented immigrants who self-deport through the CBP Home app will receive forgiveness of any fines or civil penalties for not leaving the country.

The department explained that, under current policy, an undocumented individual can be fined nearly $1,000 for each day they remain in the country after a final deportation order. Additionally, an illegal alien may also incur a penalty for failing to depart on time following a voluntary departure order.

More than 9,000 fine notices to undocumented immigrants

DHS has issued more than 9,000 fine notices to undocumented immigrants totaling nearly $3 billion. In addition, DHS has simplified the CBP Home mobile app by eliminating certain steps and making it easier for undocumented immigrants to self-deport.

"If you are here illegally, use the CBP Home App to take control of your departure and receive financial support to return home," said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

"If you don’t, you will be subjected to fines, arrest, deportation and will never be allowed to return. If you are in this country illegally, self-deport NOW and preserve your opportunity to potentially return the right, and legal way," she added.

An exit bonus and free travel

In addition, the Trump administration insisted that undocumented immigrants who use the CBP Home mobile app to self-deport will also receive free travel to their home countries and a $1,000 exit bonus, which is paid once their return is confirmed through the app.

"Self-deportation is the safest and most cost-efficient way to leave the U.S. By self-deporting, illegal aliens take control of their departure and may preserve the opportunity to come back to the U.S. the right and legal way in the future," the department highlighted.
