Ohio: Major accident involving a bus carrying high school students leaves six dead and at least 18 injured

On Tuesday morning, a serious accident occurred in Licking County, Ohio, that left at least six people dead and 18 injured. The situation arose after a truck rear-ended a bus carrying high school students.

It was also learned that at least 50 people were traveling on the bus, the AP reported. The authorities asked citizens to avoid taking this route. "The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Interstate 70 West, in Licking County, near the Smoke Road underpass. The cause was not immediately known," the AP explained.

The injured are being treated at a local hospital. Several images of the accident were published on social media, in which the bus and a truck behind the bus can be seen engulfed in flames.

The bus came from Tuscarawas County High School. The passengers were predominately band members from from the school who were heading to Columbus to perform at the Ohio School Board Association's convention this week. A number of parents and teachers were also on the bus.
