The president Donald Trump announced Friday that top U.S. defense contractors have pledged to dramatically increase production of high-end weaponry, following a meeting at the White House with several of the industry's top executives, including top managers from companies such as BAE Systems, Boeing, Honeywell, L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon. After the meeting, the Republican leader commented via his Truth Social account that the companies agreed to significantly expand production of what he described as advanced weaponry of the "exquisite class," with the goal of rapidly increasing available quantities.
"They have agreed to quadruple Production of the ‘Exquisite Class’ Weaponry in that we want to reach, as rapidly as possible, the highest levels of quantity," Trump wrote in a post on his social network, in which he also added that ethe effort to expand production had already begun some time ago, noting that "Expansion began three months prior to the meeting, and Plants and Production of many of these Weapons are already under way."
Unlimited supply
Elsewhere in his release, Trump also addressed concerns raised by some analysts and lawmakers about the U.S. military's ammunition stockpile, particularly as U.S. forces continue to intercept Iranian drones and missiles in the Middle East. "We have a virtually unlimited supply of Medium and Upper Medium Grade Munitions, which we are using, as an example, in Iran, and recently used in Venezuela. Regardless, however, we have also increased Orders at these levels," Trump stressed in his Truth Social post.
Trump's message comes as the U.S. and Israel continue their military operations against Iran, which have provoked retaliatory attacks by Tehran toward bases of those nations in several countries in the region. U.S. Central Command said in an update Friday that U.S. forces have struck more than 3,000 targets inside Iran since the start of the fighting, the highlight of which has been the elimination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Feb. 28, in what has become one of the most shocking events in the Middle East and could mark a before and after in the region.
