Authorities confirmed on Monday that gunmen from a criminal organization abducted 25 students from a girls' secondary school in northwestern Nigeria.
Police detailed that the assailants entered the school in Kebbi state at around 4 a.m. local time (3 a.m. GMT) with sophisticated weapons and firing sporadically. When police officers arrived, the suspects "had already jumped the school fence and abducted 25 students from their residence."
The criminals killed one member of the establishment, Hassan Makuku, and wounded a teacher, Ali Shehu.

Kebbi police stated that a team consisting of its officers, military and civilian militia members were deployed to the scene.
The team is "thoroughly combing the routes used by the bandits and the nearby forest" in order to "rescue the kidnapped students and try to apprehend the perpetrators of this atrocious act."
