Insecurity continues to plague Mexico. The latest victims were Ximena Guzman, private secretary to the mayor of the Mexican capital, and adviser Jose Munoz, who were killed Tuesday in what authorities describe as "a direct assault."
The attack occurred in the morning on Calzada de Tlalpan, an avenue that links the center and south of the city. Local authorities assured that the attackers were on board a motorcycle, while Guzman was in a van that Muñoz was getting into.
"To investigate, clarify and guarantee that there will be no impunity is our commitment," the city's head of government, Clara Brugada, promised at a conference. At the moment, investigators are trying to identify the assailants and determine the motive.
Addressing the people of the capital, Brugada promised: "This government will continue its relentless fight against insecurity."
President Claudia Sheinbaum made the resources of the federal state available to "get to the bottom of this situation and for there to be justice." Sheinbaum detailed that the officials worked in her same party, Morena, "for a long time."

The last similar incident was in June 2020, when the current federal Public Security Secretary, Omar Garcia Harfuch, was wounded in a shooting in the streets of Mexico City, according to AFP.
The armored van in which Harfuch, the then local public security secretary, was traveling was attacked by several hitmen linked to the Jalisco Cartel - New Generation (CJNG), one of Mexico's most powerful cartels.
Two of his bodyguards and a bystander were killed in the attack.
