The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that a three-day operation led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICEand the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) targeted specific threats to public safety along Interstate 40 in Oklahoma.

The security operations took place from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25, 2025. During the raids, ICE conducted background checks on individuals encountered by the OHP. As a result, 120 people were detained for immigration violations, including 91 who were driving commercial vehicles.

Two undocumented immigrants were also arrested at a cannabis grow site nearby.

The criminal histories of the 120 undocumented immigrants included prior convictions for:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Illegal entry into the United States
  • Money laundering
  • Human trafficking
  • Assault
  • Conspiracy to distribute cocaine
  • Processing of a controlled substance

Along those lines, Madison Sheahan, deputy director of ICE, argued that illegal immigrants should not be driving heavy-duty trucks:

"Illegal aliens have no business operating 18 wheelers on America’s highways. Our roads are now safer with these illegal aliens no longer behind the wheel. We encourage more state and local law enforcement to sign 287(g) agreements to help remove public safety threats and receive reimbursement funds available to our law enforcement partners," Sheahan said.

The Harjinder Singh case

In September, news broke of an arrest by ICE of an undocumented immigrant who caused a multi-vehicle accident while driving an 18-wheeler in California, leaving a 5-year-old girl, Dalilah, with critical injuries.

"In August, ICE lodged an arrest detainer for a criminal illegal alien—Harjinder Singh— following his arrest for three counts of vehicular homicide while driving a semi-truck in Florida," the agency reported.
