Famous chef Anne Burrell passed away suddenly at her home, according to her family and representatives. Emergency services responded to a call from a woman requesting help and arrived at the residence, where they found Anne unconscious and unresponsive. They were only able to confirm her death.

"Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother and friend. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."

TV star for her charisma and likability

Burrell was best known for hosting Worst Cooks in America for many seasons, where disastrous cooks were transformed into competent chefs through her mentorship.

People magazine, one of the first to report her death, highlighted that “her infectious enthusiasm, signature laugh and fierce kitchen skills made her a standout in the world of food television."

Her mother and Julia Child were her role models

Born on September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York, Burrell quickly realized she wanted to become a chef after falling in love with cooking through her mother’s home recipes and the influence of television icon Julia Child.

However, she initially studied English and communication at Canisius College in Buffalo. She later pursued her dream of working in the kitchen by attending the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, where she graduated in 1996.

Teaching and cooking, passions she brought to television

In 2000, Burrell took a new direction in her career by becoming an instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education and beginning to explore television. She made her debut as a sous chef on Iron Chef America on Food Network. However, her charisma and culinary skills soon led her to launch her own show, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. The show premiered in 2008, ran for nine seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination.

From there, Burrell became a staple on Food Network, appearing on shows like Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently, the competition series House of Knives, which premiered in March 2025.
