Florida: One dead in collision between ferry and boat in Clearwater
Authorities reported that the boat fled the scene after the collision occurred. Several injuries were also reported.

A collision between a private boat and a ferry carrying 45 passengers near the Memorial Causeway Bridge in Clearwater, Florida, resulted in one death and several injuries, local authorities confirmed.
As soon as the accident occurred, the private boat fled the scene, according to authorities. However, law enforcement officials were able to identify it and those on board, though no further details were provided.
"Along with Clearwater Fire and Rescue, we’re working a boat crash off the Memorial Causeway bridge that has resulted in multiple injuries," the Clearwater Police Department reported.
"The crash involved the Clearwater Ferry, which had more than 40 people on board. All of the injuries are from the ferry. The boat that struck the ferry fled the scene," it said.
It later confirmed the death of one ferry passenger. Many injured passengers, some with severe trauma, were transferred to local hospitals.
"One person has died from injuries in tonight’s boat crash," law enforcement confirmed within hours.
Along with the city's Fire and Rescue Department, the Clearwater Police Department received assistance from the Coast Guard, which also reported the accident on X.
The investigation is still ongoing.
