Winter storm warning for southern and midwestern states
A winter storm affecting New Mexico, the Dakotas, Texas, and Arkansas will bring warnings ranging from moderate to high severity.
This weekend, weather changes are expected across several states, with a winter front moving from north to south. Stretching from the Dakotas to Texas, the storm will bring heavy snowfall and impact up to eight states in various ways.
Forecasts predict the heaviest snowstorms will hit northern Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, where moderate to high-risk snow warnings are in effect. In the other affected areas, the risk will range from slight to moderate.
Snowfall could lead to hazardous driving conditions, power outages, and school closures. Snow began falling in Texas and Oklahoma as early as Thursday and is expected to persist through the day and into Friday.
Texas is expected to get between two and four inches of snow, mainly along and north of I-20, an area that usually gets less than two inches a year.
In anticipation of the storm's impact, Dallas schools will remain closed on Thursday and Friday. During a news conference on Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott urged drivers to "be careful."
