Kenneth Mitchell, Star Trek and Marvel actor, dies
The Canadian actor had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for several years.
Star Trek actor Kenneth Mitchell died at age 49 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The news was confirmed by Mitchell's family in a statement they posted on Instagram.
"With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend," Mitchell's family said.
"For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment," the family added.
Likewise, his family highlighted the actor's life and said that he lived by the principle that every day is a gift: "We never walk alone. His life is a shining example of how full one can be when you live with love, compassion, humor, inclusion and community."
The official Star Trek website also posted a statement about the actor's death. "The entire Star Trek family sends their condolences to Mitchell's family, friends, loved ones and fans around the world."
Additionally, the page recalled that Mitchell was born on November 25, 1974 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He "appeared in multiple films and television shows, including roles such as the father of superhero Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel and Olympic hopeful in Miracle. Other roles include turns on Jericho, The Astronaut Wives Club, Ghost Whisperer, and Switched at Birth."
