Ohio Police arrested a man and a woman for hijacking a semi-trailer and using its driver as a hostage in their attempt to evade officers. The detainees, who were carrying weapons, provoked a chase through several states before stopping near the Dayton airport, where a specialized team attempted to negotiate their surrender. After failing to reach an agreement, the policemen threw gas bombs at the car and opened fire, wounding the man.

The event began with a routine traffic control

The incident began in London, Ohio, when a routine traffic stop stopped a vehicle with its lights off and without registration. The occupants, a man and a woman, tried to escape and made their way to a gas station where they hijacked the semi-trailer with which they tried to escape from law enforcement. The kidnapper pointed his gun at a policeman who tried to stop them, but did not open fire.

Once inside the new vehicle, the detainees rammed a police car, without causing any injuries, in order to break through. The chase crossed several counties, including Clark, Green and Montgomery. The chase ended when the hijacked vehicle stopped on Interstate 70 near Dayton International Airport Access Road in Vandlaia, where it was surrounded by police officers.

The criminal signaled to the agents, informing them that no one was injured in the cabin and asked for tobacco, among other things. After blocking the road, the authorities sent a negotiator, who tried for several hours to reach an agreement so that the kidnappers would surrender. Finally, the officers threw gas bombs and opened fire and were able to take the hijackers out of the vehicle afterwards. Both were taken to the hospital, while the hijacked driver remained unharmed.
