Glassdoor released its annual list of the "best places to work" in the U.S. For the first time since 2009, neither Apple nor Facebook's parent company Meta made it into the top 100.

Apple had been on the list since the first edition of the list, but the company has been heavily criticized since it required its employees to return to the office during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meta entered the ranking in 2011 and has remained in the top 100 ever since. However, the company had a difficult year in 2022. Not only did it lay off thousands of its workers, but it also enacted a hiring freeze.

Top 10 companies

Despite the fact that neither Apple nor Meta made the cut, big tech companies still have a presence in Glassdoor's rankings. In fact, more than 40% of the organizations on the list belong to the tech industry.

Tech company Gainsight came in first, followed by Box. In third and fourth place are the consulting firms Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company, respectively.

In fifth and sixth place are again technology companies: NVIDIA and then MathWorks. In seventh place is Boston Consulting Group, in eighth is Google, and ServiceNow and the food company In-N-Out Burger round out the top 10.

It should be noted that Glassdoor's list focuses on U.S. firms. It is based on feedback submitted throughout the year from employees to evaluate a broad scope of aspects that make a company a great place to work.
