Trump on his upcoming meeting with Bukele: 'Our Nations are working closely together to eradicate terrorist organizations'

President Donald Trump announced Saturday his enthusiasm for the upcoming meeting with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, scheduled for Monday, April 14, at the White House.
In a message posted on his Truth Social account, Trump highlighted the collaboration between the two countries to combat terrorism and promote a future of prosperity, underscoring El Salvador's role in apprehending individuals considered threats to U.S. security.
“Looking forward to seeing President Bukele, of El Salvador, on Monday! Our Nations are working closely together to eradicate terrorist organizations, and build a future of Prosperity. President Bukele has graciously accepted into his Nation’s custody some of the most violent alien enemies of the World and, in particular, the United States. These barbarians are now in the sole custody of El Salvador, a proud and sovereign Nation, and their future is up to President B and his Government. They will never threaten or menace our Citizens again!” the Republican leader said.

For his part, President Bukele arrived this Saturday at Joint Military Base Andrews on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., marking the beginning of his official visit to the United States.
Through his account on the social media platform X, Bukele shared a video showing the reception by U.S. authorities.

The visit takes place in a context of growing cooperation between both governments, especially on security and migration issues. In addition, like other Latin American countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Argentina, Trump ordered the minimum tariff rate of 10% for El Salvador.

The meeting between Trump and Bukele reinforces a relationship that has intensified since both leaders expressed interest in working together to address common challenges, such as transnational crime and irregular migration.

In March, hundreds of people, mainly identified as suspected members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, were deported from the United States to El Salvador under an agreement between the two governments.
These individuals were sent to CECOT, a prison complex designed to house individuals accused of terrorism and serious crimes.
