Rep. Carlos A. Giménez (R-Fla.) requested the Donald Trump administration to suspend all remittances and travel to "the murderous dictatorship" of Cuba.

The representative sent a letter Thursday to Treasury Department Secretary Scott Bessent, in which he makes the request and lays out the reasons, and shared it on his X profile.

"During President Trump's first term, he suspended cruise travel to Cuba and imposed sanctions to limit the regime's access to foreign exchange and resources used to repress the Cuban people," the Cuban-American highlighted in the message.

Cuba: State sponsor of terrorism

In his letter, Giménez points out that "the regime in Cuba is a listed State Sponsor of Terrorism," mentioning that it harbors fugitive criminals and represents a clear threat to the security of the United States and its citizens.

This issue, according to him, is of great importance to millions of Americans who value freedom, democracy and human rights.

In the text, he adds that "the regime's cynicism and repression know no bounds," stressing that they ration electricity and food on the island. He also says that the regime has doubled down on "the persecution of brave dissidents and political opponents."

Carlos A. Giménez also pointed to flights operated by U.S.-based airlines to the island such as American Airlines, Delta, United and Southwest, among others, which have more than 10 trips to Havana weekly.

President Donald Trump was recognized by the Cuban-born politician as the greatest ally of the Cuban people in their "struggle for freedom," and insisted that now "more than ever, it is necessary to economically suffocate" the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Giménez's letter is not an isolated case. Other leaders, such as Sen. Rick Scott and Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, have also expressed concerns about the implications of travel to Cuba. Scott even anticipated days ago that in the coming months we could see additional restrictions on travel and remittances, suggesting that pressure on the U.S. administration is mounting.

Giménez, who was born in Cuba, represents Florida's 28th district, which covers part of southwest Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. He is among the American politicians who maintain a firm line against the Castro regime.
