Criticism of Nancy Pelosi, a promise to vote for Marco Rubio and a nod to Trump: John Fetterman angers Democrats
After the presidential election, the Pennsylvania senator has been declaring some views which are vastly different from his colleagues.
John Fetterman (D-PA) is infuriating Democrats. The senator from Pennsylvania has been making statements for days that are a bit striking for someone in his party, even more so considering that it's not even two weeks after the presidential election. From strong self-criticism, darts for Nancy Pelosi and nods to Donald Trump, the senator has been speaking his mind without a filter.
The distinguishable Democratic senator, who stands more than six feet tall and rarely wears a suit, was warning about Trump's connection to Pennsylvania voters during the campaign, especially after the assassination attempt in Butler.
After the Republican victory November 5, in which they gained the House, Senate and White House, he began opining quite differently from many of his colleagues.
He recently publicly endorsed Republican Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. While he could have just voted for him when the time comes, Fetterman felt the need to express himself on social media.
"As expected, the other team's choice will have policy differences than mine. That said, my colleague Marco Rubio is a strong choice and I look forward to voting for his confirmation," he wrote on his X account.
He had previously praised Rubio, declaring himself his "fan." "In fact, I was surprised Trump didn't pick him over (Ohio Sen. JD) Vance," he noted in October.
Fetterman also recently took a shot at Nancy Pelosi, whom he accused of ending Joe Biden's presidential bid in mid-July and now blaming him for the defeat.
"She really tried to - what's the word I'm looking for? - she embraced this, 'she's the godmother, she's the enforcer.' And now she blames Biden. Well, you can't have it both ways," he told Politico.
"You got what you wanted, and now you’re still blaming Biden.I think it’s really ironic that you have a woman at age 84 and she is still hanging on. Why not give a younger generation an opportunity to occupy that seat?", he added.
He also indirectly criticized her in a dialogue with Semafor: "For those who decided and mobilized to defeat Biden, and then got the election they wanted, it is appropriate to assume the result and the consequences," he commented.

The Democratic senator also defended Trump supporters from the accusations of many media outlets. "I love people that are absolutely going to vote for Trump. They’re not fascists. They’re not those things. I think if you go to the tickle switch, use those kinds of terms, then it’s kind of hard to walk back on those things. That’s kind of a word that really isn’t part of the vernacular for voters. Scolding harder or clutching the pearls harder, that’s never going to work for Democrats," he expressed recently, also in dialogue with Politico.
On Trump's recent Cabinet appointments, such as Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth, Fetterman gave a different take than many Democrats. "“I would describe it as God-tier level trolling to just own the libs in perpetuity," he expressed. His comments racked up millions of views on social media.
Finally, the Pennsylvania senator took aim at his party for being outraged by the president-elect's every move or statement.
"And that’s the thing. If you’re already exhausted, freaking out, and it’s not even Thanksgiving, then you really ought to pace yourselves. Because he hasn’t even been inaugurated yet," he told NBC.
"So you really have to chill out, and you’re going to have to be more discerning or discriminate on what’s going to freak you out, or what’s just trolling. Because it’s not the weather, it’s the climate now for the next four years," he stated.
