The terrorist group Hamas claimed that the United States and other international mediators assured him that the war in Gaza is over.
In statements made to the Al Jazeera channel and picked up by AFP, Khalil al Hayya, Hamas' chief negotiator, said the U.S.-led international delegation assured him that the conflict - started by the terror group itself with the October 7 attacks - is over.
"We received assurances from the brotherly mediators and the U.S. administration confirming that the war came to an end," al Hayya said.
This Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas accepted the first phase of their peace plan.
"This is a great day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America," Trump said, appreciating the work of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, who assisted in the mediation. The president called the moment a "historic and unprecedented event."
In addition, Trump said that he will travel to Israel if asked.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called this agreement a "diplomatic success and a national and moral victory" for his country.
