Gene Hackman and wife test negative for carbon monoxide: new details of case revealed

An analysis of Hollywood legend Gene Hackman's pacemaker revealed that his last activity was recorded nine days before he and his wife were found lifeless in their New Mexico home. This was reported Friday by local sheriff Adan Mendoza.

"According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption that that was his last day of life," Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a press conference reported by Fox News.

Mendoza added that carbon monoxide poisoning appears to have been ruled out, following tests. That hypothesis had been suggested by the family to the media.

Nor was any trauma found on the bodies of the couple.

In addition, it was learned that detectives will analyze cell phone data, phone calls, text messages, events and photos on the cell phone to try to reconstruct a timeline.

The bodies of the 95-year-old actor and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found in the city of Santa Fe last Wednesday, along with the body of one of their dogs.

Authorities found no signs of a crime, but considered the deaths suspicious enough to launch an investigation.

When the couple were found, there were pills scattered around Arakawa in the bathroom, with a heater next to her head. Her body was already decomposing.

Hackman's corpse, meanwhile, lay in the next room, with his clothes on and sunglasses nearby.
