Sam Moore, the legendary "Soul Man" singer and member of the duo Sam & Dave, died at the age of 89. According to the information, the situation occurred after he suffered complications following a surgery.

His death, following surgery at a Coral Gables, Fla., hospital, was confirmed to The New York Times by his wife and manager, Joyce Moore. The exact cause is unclear.

The duo Sam & Dave achieved success in the 1960s, when they produced rhythm and blues hits with a regularity that few other artists matched. "Soul Man" topped the R&B charts and reached No. 2 on the pop charts in 1967. It also won a Grammy.

In that regard, The New York Times recalled that "his success helped open doors for other black artists to connect with white audiences."

Moore performed a version of "America the Beautiful" during President Donald Trump's 2017 inauguration concert. He also, recalled the AP, was responsible for writing the song "Dole Man" for Republican Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign.
