An audio of the emergency call made by a secret service agent to report the drowning of Obama's former chef comes to light
The Daily Mail had access to the telephone contact that was made from the former president's property to report the drowning of Tafari Campbell.
This Tuesday, new information emerged about the death of Barack Obama’s former private chef. New audio sheds light on the call made by the former president’s Secret Service agent to 911 to report the “guest” drowning incident.
A few months ago, the news broke that Tafari Campbell, the Obamas’ former cook, lost his life while paddleboarding in the pond located behind the former president’s property on Martha’s Vineyard.
Timothy McGuirk, a state official, reported that Campbell died accidentally after falling off his paddleboard into the water. However, there seemed to be a mystery surrounding the call that reported the incident that day.
Edgartown Police Department records did not specify the reason for the call made from Obama’s property that night, making it the only call without details. It was known that the mysterious call was made by an agent of the former president’s Secret Service, and new audio obtained by the Daily Mail reveals what the telephone contact was like.
“We have a male drowning in the back of the property right now,” Officer Dave told a 911 operator. The Secret Service member also reported that swimmers were already in the water trying to find the “house guest” who fell in.
The 911 operator asked the officer if he required an ambulance or water rescue, to which, after a pause, Dave responded, “They didn’t advise right now. I would say at least an ambulance. I don’t know what they’re doing in the back of the property right now. We have our rescue swimmer who’s getting the boat right now. So, um, I would say at least an ambulance,” he said.
During the telephone contact, the agent asked the operator for a telephone number to call in case they managed to get Campbell out of the water. Three minutes later, a second phone call was recorded from the same agent reporting that the chef could not be found and providing a detailed description of the victim.
“He’s wearing all black; he’s on a paddle board, he’s 40ish years old, black gentlemen, regular build,” Dave reported.
The call does not mention any of Campbell’s companions at the time of the drowning. However, Daily Mail claims its sources reported that a 26-year-old woman who was also a member of Barack Obama’s staff was with the chef on a paddleboard at the time of the incident.
Campbell’s appearance
The chef’s body appeared a day after the call about 100 feet from the lake’s shoreline. Diving equipment, lifeboats, and a Coast Guard helicopter were required during the search.
