Space Force fires Greenland base commander Susannah Meyers after she criticizes JD Vance
In a message sent after the vice president's visit, the colonel asserted that the Republican's words were not "reflective of Pituffik Space Base."

JD Vance at Pituffik Space Base
"Loss of confidence in her ability to lead." That was the reason the Space Force cited for the dismissal of Col. Susannah Meyers, commander of the only U.S. base in Greenland.
The agency provided no further details, aside from naming her replacement, Shawn Lee, and stating that it expects commanders "to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, particularly when it comes to remaining nonpartisan in the performance of their duties."
The specialist site Military.com revealed an email from Meyers to staff at the Pituffik military site following JD Vance's visit: "I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base."
The message was forwarded to the entire staff, including citizens of Greenland and Denmark. "I commit that, for as long as I am lucky enough to lead this base, all of our flags will fly proudly -- together," she also stated. The available information does not clarify exactly which remarks from the Republican displeased Meyers.
Linking to the specialized media article and including an image of the agency's statement, Sean Parnell, Pentagon spokesman, posted on X that "actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump's agenda will not be tolerated at the Department of Defense."
