Steve Bannon to be released from prison next week
Donald Trump's former adviser has ended up serving his entire sentence behind bars, despite his attempts to do so under house arrest.
Steve Bannon will be released from prison on October 29. The Bureau of Prisons reported that Donald Trump's former adviser will serve his entire 120-day sentence in jail, despite his attempts to do so at home.
In a letter sent to Bannon's defense team, the acting warden of the low-security Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury (Connecticut), Derek Puzio, argued that Trump's former advisor cannot leave prison due to the fact that there are only a few days left before he is free. A missive to which CNN gained access.
"Mr. Bannon has insufficient time on his sentence to process a referral and secure approval for ten days of home confinement placement. The Regional Reentry Management Office overseeing your client’s release area advised their Residential Reentry Centers, which monitor home confinement placements, that they will not accept placements under 30 days," Puzio said.
Bannon entered prison in July 2022 after being sentenced to four months for disrespecting Congress. He was scheduled to testify before the House committee investigating what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, and did not appear.
"I am proud to go to jail. And this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny. This is what it takes to stand up to the corrupt and criminal Garland Justice Department. This is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi. This is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden. I'm proud to do it," Bannon said after learning he would serve four months in prison.
In December, he will appear in court again, charged with fraud, money laundering and conspiracy in New York. Bannon has already pleaded not guilty.
