Steve Bannon has been sentenced to four months in prison and $6,500 in fines for two counts of contempt of Congress. The businessman and former Donald Trump adviser refused to testify and turn over documentation requested by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill.

The judge said that, should Bannon's defense file an appeal, he will not have to serve the sentence pending the conclusion of the appeals process.

This Monday, the Justice Department asked for an even greater sentence: six months in prison and a $200,000 fine. Bannon's legal team proposed house arrest.

Some Republican congressmen, such as Marjorie Taylor Green, showed their support for Trump's former advisor.
