Trump's lawyer on the trial: 'I've had a judge who is unhinged, slamming a table'
Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, stated that Judge Engoron has no real intention to listen to the former president.
This Monday, in the middle of a break in the trial of former President Donald Trump for civil fraud, his lawyer, Alina Habba, took a few minutes to give strong statements to the press about what was happening in the courtroom, stating that Judge Arthur Engoron was "unhinged." She said that he yelled at her and ordered her to sit down, and his face was red and he was hitting the table.
"I was told to sit down today. I was yelled at and I've had a judge who is unhinged, slamming a table. I don't tolerate that in my life. I’m not going to tolerate it here."
"You have a right to hire a lawyer who can stand up and stay something when they see something wrong," the lawyer said, insisting that the judge did not seem to have any intention of really listening to former President Trump. She said Engoron thought former president Trump committed fraud before "we even walked into this courtroom."
The lawyer also accused New York Attorney General Letitia James of trying to make a name for herself by going after former President Trump, accusing him of inflating the value of his properties and calling him a "liar," in a case in which Trump's lawyer insists there isn't even a victim, and both Trump and his legal team claim to have all the evidence in their favor.
"They've got nothing but their politics. She's got nothing but her Soros-backing," she added, referring to New York Attorney General Letitia James and Judge Engoron.
"We are now a month deep into the biggest waste of New York tax dollars I've ever seen," Habba said.
Judge Engoron: 'I don’t want to hear everything he has to say'
Alina Habba's statements come after a difficult morning with several clashes between Judge Engoron and Trump's lawyers. The judge asked former President Trump in the morning to give faster answers and accused him of trying to give speeches. Engoron then asked Trump's lawyer Chris Kise to control the former president, adding: "If you can't, I will."
As reported by Fox News, Kise stated that the judge should be interested in the witness's testimony. But Engoron replied: "I don’t want to hear everything he has to say."
Alina Habba, meanwhile, said Wallace, the New York attorney general's lawyer questioning Trump at the time, "should try to ask better questions."
Former President Trump said, "This is a very, very unfair trial, and I hope the public is watching."
