Ukraine strikes major Russian military industry center in Oryol
Kiev managed to hit some component factories after accusing Russia of wanting to buy time by delaying a potential truce.

The U.K. authorized the delivery of these missiles in May 2023.
Ukraine has stepped up its drone attacks against strategic infrastructure in Russian territory, in what is considered one of the most significant offensives since the start of the conflict in 2022.
Among the targets hit was a factory in Oryol, in western Russia, dedicated to the production of components for tanks, missiles and electronic systems. This attack is part of a wider campaign that has also affected a refinery in Moscow, responsible for processing up to 11 million tons of oil a year, and facilities related to the Druzhba pipeline, crucial to Russia's energy supply .
This is not the first time that key infrastructure in the Oryol region has come under attack from Ukraine. In late 2024, Ukraine claimed shelling against an oil site in the same Russian region.
No truce after Istanbul meeting
Senior Russian and Ukrainian officials met Friday in Istanbul for the first direct talks on the conflict in more than three years, but without reaching any truce agreement.
"It is obvious that Russia is trying to buy time to continue the war and occupation," the Ukrainian president said on social media, the day after a phone call with no tangible results between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin.
Drone attack
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted 337 Ukrainian drones overnight, with eight of them shot down in the Oryol region. However, Ukrainian authorities claim that their attacks were aimed exclusively at military and energy facilities, seeking to weaken Russia's logistical and operational capabilities in the conflict .
The intensification of these offensives coincides with ongoing diplomatic efforts, including meetings in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and American delegations, suggesting a pressure strategy by Kiev to strengthen its position in possible peace negotiations.
