Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, gave a threatening speech to the United Nations, accusing the United States of directing the war between Israel and Hamas and warning it “will not be spared” if the conflict continues.

In a speech full of tension, the senior Iranian diplomat spoke this Thursday of his country’s commitment to peace and the alleged fear he feels about the possible escalation of the war conflict in the region. However, at the same time, he took advantage of his speech to give a “warning” to Washington.

“Today in New York and from the headquarters of the United Nations, I say frankly to the American statesmen and military forces who are now managing the genocide in Palestine, that we do not welcome the expansion and scope of the war in the region, but I warn if the genocide in Gaza continues, they will not be spared from this fire,” said the minister, assuring that his nation does not make “concessions.”

“While the US itself is actually and directly involved in committing crimes against Palestinians, it is not in a position to invite others to exercise self-restraint and refrain from spreading the war,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian speaks in favor of Hamas

Despite the attack carried out by the Palestinian group against more than a thousand Israelis, the Iranian minister defended Hamas as a “liberation movement” and called on the international community to recognize it as such and respect its rights.

“According to international law, the Palestinian liberation movement Hamas is fighting the occupation and has a legitimate right,” he said.

Iran’s defense is not surprising as reports have already emerged accusing Tehran of financing terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. In fact, a recent report from The Wall Street Journal states that officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been working since August with these groups to organize the attack against the Jewish country.

They criticize the decision to grant Abdollahian a visa

After the speech, several people took to social media to express their displeasure at the Biden Administration’s decision to grant the Iranian minister a visa to attend the UN assembly.

“This man in [is] threatening us, while in our country (...) in the immediate aftermath of a Jew massacre that said regime planned and funded, which killed dozens of US citizens,” said Fox News Radio host Guy Benson.

Former State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus criticized Biden for failing to establish “red lines” even as Iran “plot to kill cabinet officials.”
