After obtaining second place in the Argentine presidential elections, Javier Milei now begins to plot his strategy to defeat Sergio Massa in the second round and become the next president of the South American country. To do this, for the first time, he opened the door for a former political rival to join his party and work together to remove Peronism from the government.

After a combative campaign, the libertarian economist directly referred to the possibility of adding Patricia Bullrich, who obtained third place in the general elections, to his staff in the event of his presidency. In statements with Luis Majul, he expressed that he has a “total and absolute understanding” regarding security with Mauricio Macri’s candidate.

Continuing with the rhetoric of unity that began in his post-election speech, Milei reiterated the need to expand his ranks to meet the ultimate goal of “ending Kirchnerism.”

“The first thing to understand is that two-thirds of the population does not want Kirchnerism, therefore, we must do work that allows us to go find those who did not choose Kirchnerism. From our point of view, given the government’s reckless move to advance the electoral result, we believe that this is a ceiling for the government and that what we have achieved is a floor, therefore, we are now facing a moment in which one has to decide if one wants to be stirring about things that fuel differences or agree to defeat Kirchnerism, which seems to me to be the primary objective,” he added.

“If she would like to join us, how can I not include her?”

Until Sunday, the economist and the former security minister had exchanged barbs in the campaign, including some personal attacks. However, once the results of the general elections arrived, which advanced the Peronist Sergio Massa and Milei himself to a second round, the latter opted for a speech of unity.

Less than 24 hours later, Milei dared to give the first name: Patricia Bullrich. “If she wants to join us, how can I not include her? She has been successful in fighting insecurity, therefore, we have no problem,” he commented.

“I always recognized her fabulous work in the Ministry of Security, and there the understanding is complete. In fact, the doctor [Victoria ] Villarruel’s vision, my running mate, is aligned with hers, and the saying there is clear, which is that ‘the person who commits them [crimes], pays for them,’ and that understanding between the two is so clear that we cannot even distinguish who is the owner of the slogan,” added the libertarian.

Milei or Massa, the next president of Argentina

On Sunday, October 22, the general elections of the South American country produced the following results:

Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria: Union for the Homeland): 36%

Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza: Liberty Advances): 29%

Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio: Together for Change): 23%

Juan Schiaretti (Hacemos por Nuestro País: We do it for our Country): 7%

Myriam Bregman (Frente de izquierda:Left and Workers Front): 2%

Therefore, since no candidate reached 45% of the votes, the two most voted advanced to a second round scheduled for November 19. There, whoever obtains the majority of the “validly cast affirmative votes” (article 151 of Law 24,444 ) will command Argentina from December 10 of this year until at least the same date in 2027.
