Nine days after being admitted to the Gemelli University Hospital in Rome for abdominal surgery, Pope Francis has been discharged and is now at the Vatican.

Before returning to the Holy See, Pope Francis greeted parishioners outside the hospital and at the entrance to the Vatican. In between, he went to the Maria Santissima Bambina Institute to pay a visit to the nuns, Vatican News reported.

On the morning of June 7, the pope was admitted to the hospital for abdominal surgery. His surgeon, Dr. Sergio Alfieri, confirmed that the procedure went well and that he is currently in good health. He will be able to continue with his official schedule but will not be able to exert much strength or lift heavy objects.
