Meta will pay celebrities up to $5 million for six hours of work
A report by 'The Information' claims that Facebook's parent company is paying millions of dollars to its celebrities for using their image as an artificial intelligence assistant.
Meta is investing big in its artificial intelligence chatbots. Introduced two weeks ago by Mark Zuckerberg at his "Connect" event, the AI assistants are going to feature celebrities like Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, Mr. Beast and TikTok star Charli D'Amelio to help users with everyday functions.
Business Insider reported that Kendall Jenner's image was used to create Billie, who is portrayed as a big sister to give advice to users. Tom Brady plays Bru, a chatbot that debates with users about sports. These are just a few examples. There is also Lily, a personal editor and writing partner and Max, a chef who can help in the kitchen and who is part of these characters that Zuckerberg described as "a little more fun."
Meta is paying celebrities up to $5 million to use their likeness
However, it is unknown how much the 28 celebrities made to let Meta create artificial intelligence characters based on their likeness. Until now. A report by The Information revealed that one of these celebrities, who preferred to remain anonymous, will earn up to $5 million for six hours of work a day.
The contract will be valid for two years. The celebrity will be required to go to a studio where they will have their features scanned so that they can be used when designing and developing both the image and personality of the different chatbots which will used by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The amount differs from what was initially announced. CNBC reported that, when they announced that the chatbots would include the faces of celebrities, they assured that the technology giant had planned to pay over $1 million dollars for the rights to these images. However, including big names like Tom Brady or Kendall Jenner forced the company to increase the amount. One top creator will make $5 million.
