The New York Knicks made official the firing of their head coach, Tom Thibodeau, days after falling out of the NBA Playoffs.
"Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans. This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we’ve decided to move in another direction," Leon Rose, president of the Knicks, reported in a communique.
Rose took the opportunity to thank Thibodeau for his work during the five seasons he was at the helm of the franchise.
"We can’t thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also to tremendous success on the court. Tom will always be a part of our Knicks family, and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future," concluded the CEO.
Thibodeau joined the Knicks for the 2020/2021 season, replacing Mike Miller. Previously, he held the position of head coach of the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves. From 1996 to 2003, he served as an assistant coach with the New York franchise.
During his tenure at Madison Square Garden as head coach, Thibodeau led the Knicks to four Playoffs, achieving their best finish this past season, in which they lost the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers.
