After 37 years missing, the white marble bust that crowned the grave of legendary American singer and poet Jim Morrison, was found in Paris. The sculpture of the vocalist and leader of The Doors, stolen in 1988 from the Père Lachaise cemetery, has been recovered by French police during an investigation related to a fraud case.

The tomb of the singer, who died on July 3, 1971, is a place of pilgrimage for the rocker's fans, so numerous are the visitors, that the cemetery has had to put up barriers.

The coincidence after almost 40 years

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death, an imposing bust of Morrison by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin was installed. But shortly afterwards it was stolen and for almost 40 years there was no news of its whereabouts.

Investigators of the financial and anti-corruption brigades of Paris found it by chance, a source close to the case told AFP, confirming information already circulating in other media. The authorities have given no further details for the moment.

The judicial police published an image of the recovered bust on its social networks, in which it appears with graffiti made by the American singer's followers and without a nose. It did not specify whether the figure will be returned to its original place.

Unsolved death

Morrison settled in Paris a few months before his death. The exact circumstances of his death at the age of 27 are still unknown, although it is believed to have been due to cardiac arrest while in his bathtub.

His charisma made him a sex symbol with a worldwide following. He was also known for his provocative behavior and drug use.

The city of Paris announced in February that a walkway near the Place de la Bastille in the center of the capital will be named after the 1960s rock icon.
