The Border Patrol reported a shooting between several of its agents in Texas and hitmen from Mexican cartels. Although the incident ended without casualties, the federal agents had to be assisted by members of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The smugglers were located in Fronton, Starr County, while trying to get a group of illegal immigrants across the border. After checking the tight security on the Texas side of the border, they tried to return to Mexico and opened fire on the agents, who fired back. No one was injured on either side. After being spotted by a drone, they managed to reach an island located between the two countries.

After the arrival of reinforcements, including drones and heavy vehicles, the deployed agents saw that Mexican law enforcement also sent troops to their area of the border.

Hegseth announces more military to the border

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the arrival of 1,500 troops to the border "is only just the beginning" of his goal to gain "100% OPERATIONAL CONTROL of our nation's border." With the arrival of the new troops, there are now 4,000 soldiers deployed at the border.
