Democrat Robert Telles sentenced to life in prison for murdering journalist
Jeff German revealed that the former Nevada politician led a corruption scheme. He will be eligible for parole after he serves 28 years.
Former Nevada Democratic Party politician Robert Telles has been sentenced to life in prison - with the possibility of seeking parole he has served 28 years - after being found guilty of murdering journalist Jeff German in September 2022 in Las Vegas.
Despite all the evidence leading Telles to be responsible for German's murder, the convicted man maintained his innocence before the court, while taking the opportunity to convey his condolences to the victim's family.
"I understand the desire to seek justice and have somebody accountable for this, but I did not kill Mr. German," Telles said before hearing his sentence.
German's brother Jay, present at the hearing, said his family is worried about his future safety if Telles gets parole when he serves the 28-year sentence set by the Justice Department.
German, 69, was known for his investigations into organized crime and for revealing corruption schemes in Las Vegas, Nevada. In one of his reports, the victim pointed out Telles as leader of a corruption scheme, committing crimes such as intimidation and retaliation. In addition, he assured that the murderer was unfaithful to his wife with a colleague at the public office he managed, which cost him a divorce.
According to information provided by the Clark County Coroner's Office, German died from "multiple stab wounds"in front of his home.
