Manhunt for escaped prisoner forces closure of several schools in Pennsylvania
Danelo Cavalcante escaped Thursday from the Chester County Jail. Authorities are offering up to $10,000 for anyone with information on his whereabouts.
The search continues for the prisoner who escaped last week from Pennsylvania's maximum-security prison. The 34-year-old Brazilian, Danelo Cavalcante, escaped from the Chester County Jail on Thursday. Since then, authorities have been using all available means, both by land and air, in their efforts to catch him.
Sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend in April 2021, Cavalcante was last seen Tuesday, just a few miles from the Pocopson Township jail, according to a report by the Chester County Prosecutor's Office on X (formerly Twitter):
The situation forced several schools in the state to suspend their classes due to the danger presented by the illegal immigrant. Both the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District and the Kennett Consolidated School District decided to close schools Tuesday. The latter announced that its facilities would also remain closed today, Wednesday, September 6:
Increased reward for disclosing the whereabouts of the escaped prisoner
The authorities also decided to increase the reward they offered to those who had information about Cavalcante's whereabouts. When he fled, police announced they would provide up to $5,000 to anyone who reported on his whereabouts. The reward is now up to $10,000, authorities confirmed to Fox News.
Police, meanwhile, continue the search with security cameras, police cars and helicopters flying overhead. As reported during a press conference by Robert Clark, deputy supervisor of the US Marshals Service, they are using a recording with the voice of the mother of the escaped prisoner asking him to surrender peacefully:
