Anglo-French actress Jane Birkin passed away on Sunday at the age of 76. The performer and singer was born in London but lived in Paris since the 70s. She was an icon of pop sensuality and tenderness. Birkin passed in her Paris apartment on Sunday morning.

The causes of her death are not yet known, but she had hinted that she was not in the best of health when, a few days ago, she posted the following press release announcing that she was canceling her upcoming concerts: "I remain very optimistic, as always. That said, I am aware that I need a few days to be able to be on stage again, with you...."

Birkin stepped away from the stage after suffering a stroke in 2021. Years earlier, in 2017, she announced that she had leukemia. After this, the singer and actress developed several health problems that kept her away from her career until a few months ago.

Birkin was born in London on Dec. 14, 1946. The daughter of a military man and the well-known English actress Judy Campbell, her life was always linked to her art. At the age of 19, Jane began her acting career.

In 1965, she appeared in "Le Kanakck," the Richard Lester film that received one of the top awards at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The same also happened in 1967, this time as an actress in "Blow-Up," the feature film by Michelangelo Antonioni, which also received great recognition at this film event.

A year later, in 1968, Birkin decided to move to France, where she settled until her death. There she met the singer Serge Gainsbourg, with whom she lived an intense love story that appeared on the covers of many French magazines. As a result, Birkin released the song "Je T'aime… Moi Non Plus," a song for which she achieved fame in France and which she premiered in 1979.
