At least one person died after a SOCATA model TBM7 small plane crashed into a home in Minnesota Saturday afternoon, sparking a fire that consumed the home, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. local time as the aircraft, a small executive transport plane seating six people, was en route to the Anoka-Blaine County Airport in Minneapolis from Des Moines International Airport in Iowa, according to a release from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Brooklyn Park Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway confirmed at a press conference that there were no survivors aboard the small plane. Although it has not yet been determined how many people were on the aircraft, authorities have confirmed at least one fatality, city spokesman Risikat Adesaogun told CNN. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported among the occupants of the house, who managed to evacuate in time and escape unharmed.
Several fire trucks were on the scene to bring the situation under control. Conway explained that, upon arrival, the incident commander observed a widespread structural fire.
"What we’re asking for right now is for the neighborhood to please give us a little opportunity to continue to process the scene and work through this. There were no occupant fatalities. Everybody exited the home safely.”
For his part, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz weighed in on the incident via, X: "My team is in touch with local officials on the scene in Brooklyn Park, and we are monitoring the situation closely. Grateful to the first responders answering the call.”
