Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has invited the New York City Mayor Erick Adams and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to visit the state's border with Mexico so that they can have a real vision of the dimension of the humanitarian crisis that is being experienced there as a result of the wave of immigrants illegal aliens that keep on coming.

The call was made by Abbott in a letter sent to the mayors last Monday. “As Governor, I invite you to visit our border region so you can see firsthand the dire situation that becomes more urgent with each passing day. And to meet with local officials who, like you, realize that this issue deserves immediate federal action."

The politician explained that "as governor of a southern border state, I have seen illegal crossings reach record levels, and I have seen illegal time and time again since President Biden took office." "In the absence of federal action, I have deployed unprecedented resources to prevent, deter and interdict illegal immigration and transnational criminal activity that threatens our citizens," he adds.

The invitation comes after both mayors asked the Biden Administration for help. The reason is the overflow of asylum-seeking migrants who have arrived in recent weeks.

Eric Adams: immigrants are a "real burden"

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement that immigrants are becoming a "real burden" on the city. The Democratic politician highlights the notable increase in the number of asylum seekers arriving from Latin America and other regions. For this reason, it asked the federal government for funds to address the situation.

The mayor of Washington DC, Muriel Bowser, requested a few days ago that the National Guard be activated in the state . The objective was to attend to the 4,000 immigrants she claims were sent from Texas and Arizona by bus.

Bowser said the situation is unsustainable because they do not have sufficient resources to assist the people who are arriving and called immigration a "human crisis" that has reached a "tipping point".

Bus shipments from Texas

Governor Greg Abbott reported in a press release that "Texas has bused thousands of migrants to Washington, D.C. who otherwise would have been released into small border communities with more limited resources than the nation's capital."

Both Muriel Bowser and Eric Adams accused the governors of Texas and Arizona of sending hundreds of immigrants to their states. However Abbott clarified that he has only sent the buses to D.C.
