Two Democratic leaders announced plans to officially launch a website tracking all Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in the city of Los Angeles, representing the latest radical move proposed by several leading figures on the U.S. left to hamper the operations of immigration agencies. During a press conference alongside Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia announced on Monday that the new platform would be part of an investigation he is leading from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and that it will include the so-called "Master ICE Tracker." In parallel, Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal is leading a similar investigation into ICE in the Senate through the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

"Over the course of the next couple of weeks, the Oversight Committee will be launching on their website a master ICE tracker where we're going to be essentially tracking every single instance that we can verify that the community will send. You'll be able to send us information on. It'll be all available in one central place, and you'll be able to look up that information as it relates to Los Angeles as well," Garcia explained.

The Democratic representative also encouraged residents in the Los Angeles area to record ICE movements and report the information to the Oversight Committee as it prepares to launch its website. The public will be able to upload videos and other information to the new platform, which is expected to be available in the coming weeks. "If they are able and safe to record what is happening, we encourage them to communicate that to local groups on the ground, elected officials, and offices, they can communicate the information with," he said.

Letitia James proposes the same measure

Far from being the only Democrats to propose such a measure, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Wednesday that the state will also launch a website for residents to submit videos and photos of ICE agents operating in each of their cities. His announcement followed a high-profile raid by the agency on Canal Street, located in New York City.

"We’re launching a portal to review federal immigration enforcement in New York after yesterday’s ICE raid on Canal Street. New Yorkers who were present should submit videos or photos, and we will review and investigate any violations of the law," James wrote in a statement posted on her official X account.

Trump administration's response

The Trump administration expressed its repudiation of such a move through Attorney General Pam Bondi, who lashed out at Democrats for their plans to launch the online "tracker" of ICE activity, arguing that this action could seriously endanger ICE agents.

"Shutdown Democrats are already refusing to pay our law enforcement agents. Now, @RepRobertGarcia and @SenBlumenthal are trying to put ICE agents at risk just for doing their jobs. @TheJusticeDept has ZERO tolerance for violence against law enforcement — we will prosecute any person who physically assaults our agents," Bondi said via his X account.

Also, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a statement through her X account in which she noted that the Democrats' move is extremely dangerous, as there is the potential for information posted on the website to end up in the hands of domestic terrorist organizations.

"In the wake of violent domestic terror attacks, bounties, and more than 1000% increase in assaults against our ICE officers, radical sanctuary politicians are now building a 'Master ICE tracker' to solicit and share information on the movements of our ICE officers. Let's call this what it is: a pipeline that will funnel information on American law enforcement directly into the hands of anarchists, domestic terrorists, and cartel members. I am working with @AGPamBondi to ensure that ANY individual who doxxes, threatens, or assaults our law enforcement officers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Noem said.
