Donald Trump announced Daryl Caudle as the next chief of naval operations. The current head of U.S. Fleet Forces Norfolk, Virginia, will replace Admiral James Kilby, who holds the position on an interim basis after the president fired Lisa Franchetti in mid-February.
Without first going through the president's Truth Social account, the nomination was made entirely through administrative channels. The Senate Armed Services Committee has already received the nomination, and a hearing and subsequent vote are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Prior to his time at Norfolk, Caudle served as commander of submarine forces, deputy commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, and deputy director of strategy, plans, and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"He’s a no-nonsense guy; you can’t bullshit him. He goes and finds problems, he turns over the rock, and whatever’s underneath it, he chews it up, spits it out, and comes back," a former Navy buddy of Caudle's, who chose to speak from anonymity, told Politico.
