Gen. Timothy Haugh was fired Thursday from his position as director of the National Security Agency (NSA), two current officials confirmed on condition of anonymity to The Washington Post.
Haugh, who also heads U.S. Cyber Command, was fired along with his civilian deputy director at the NSA, Wendy Noble, who was reassigned to the Pentagon's Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security.
Specializing in communications interception and cyberespionage, the NSA is considered one of the most powerful U.S. intelligence agencies.
At this time, the reason for Haugh's dismissal and Noble's reassignment is unknown. However, last month, Elon Musk, head of the DOGE and top advisor to President Donald Trump on restructuring the federal government, surprisingly visited the National Security Agency to meet with Haugh.
