Most Americans favor a quick end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. So showed a poll published by Gallup, which detailed that this is a shift from previous studies, when a majority of Americans backed a fight for total victory in Ukraine.
In that regard, the poll found that 48% of US voters believe the United States should continue to help Ukraine regain the territory it lost in the war with Russia, even in a protracted conflict. However, 50% said they prefer to try to reach a quick end to the conflict, even if that means Ukraine does not regain all of its territory.
"Americans are also split as to whether the US is doing too much (37%), the right amount (31%) or not enough (30%) to aid Ukraine. More Americans now than in March say the US is doing the right amount, while fewer say it is not doing enough," the survey highlighted.
In addition, 68% of US adults said neither Russia nor Ukraine is currently winning the war.
The poll also indicated that Gallup has measured Americans' preferences on US involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war six times since August 2022. It detailed that the current 48% support for the US helping Ukraine regain territory it has lost in the war with Russia marks the first time the reading has fallen below the majority level.
"However, support for helping Ukraine for as long as necessary had been declining before now. While it ranged from 62% to 66% in three readings between August 2022 and June 2023, backing for potential prolonged US involvement dropped eight percentage points in October 2023, to 54%," the poll highlighted.
