Tim Walz called for the demise of the Electoral CollegeKamala Harris' running mate made the assertion during a fundraising event in California, which he headlined alongside Governor Gavin Newsom. Less than a month before the presidential elections, the Democrat is looking to rebuild his image after the debate against JD Vance.

Walz, who has been actively campaigning recently, participated alongside the California governor in a fundraiser held in Sacramento. The Democratic ticket managed to raise so much money in recent months that he began investing it in key Senate races.

"I think we all know that the electoral college has to go away. We need the national popular vote, but that's not the world we live in," he expressed

Walz later participated in a campaign event in Nevada, where he attempted to defend the economic performance of the Biden-Harris administration and performed his trademark gestures.

This rhetoric is not new to the Democratic Party. In the 2020 primaries, as many as twelve candidates stated that they favored eliminating the electoral college. Among them were Corey Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Michael Bennet, Julian Castro, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O'Rourke and Pete Buttigieg. As for Kamala Harris, she said she was "open" to the discussion on elimination.

"I mean, there's no question that the popular vote has declined in terms of making the ultimate decision on who is the president of the United States and we have to deal with that," Harris added in 2020.

The Trump campaign reacted to Walz's comments, recalling a similar assertion by Hillary Clinton. "Tim (Walz) is already setting the stage to delegitimize President Trump's victory in November. Where have we seen this before?" they posted on their X account, adding a screenshot of Clinton's remarks.
