Kevin McCarthy announces impeachment inquiry against Biden for his 'culture of corruption'
The speaker of the House of Representatives said that the decision was made because they received very serious accusations about the president's conduct in recent months.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden. During a press conference, the speaker assured that the Republicans in the House have enough evidence to justify the process.
The Republican said that the decision came because in recent months they had received very serious accusations about the president's conduct, which he described as "culture of corruption": "Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption," McCarthy said on X (formerly Twitter).
"I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden," the Republican wrote on the platform.
On July 26, House Republicans met behind closed doors to discuss the possibilities of impeachment against Biden. As reported by Politico, Kevin McCarthy told his colleagues that he would initiate the procedure only when he obtained sufficient evidence.
Biden, in recent months, has been accused of receiving bribes from foreign nationals in exchange for political favors when he was vice president. In fact, several Republican lawmakers had already registered articles of impeachment against Biden. Among the accusations, the most serious are related to the energy company Burisma. The president is accused of having pressured the Ukrainian government to fire former Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was investigating the Ukrainian firm for corruption.
