Kari Lake files appeal in election lawsuit against Governor Katie Hobbs
The Republican candidate was not satisfied with the decision of the Superior Court that ruled against her in voter fraud case.
Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake began 2023 by filing a petition to appeal the dismissal of her lawsuit challenging the 2022 midterm election. The U.S. television host wasted no time, and at the beginning of January, she shared on her official Twitter account that she had taken her request to the Arizona Supreme Court.
Lake had already announced that she disagreed with the Maricopa County Superior Court decision that ruled against her lawsuit alleging intentional election misconduct in an election where the margin of votes between the candidates was very narrow.
At the time, the judge who dismissed the lawsuit said that no clear or convincing evidence had been found to show that there was no "chain of custody" fraud in the 2022 election. However, Lake felt that she presented sufficient evidence, including expert testimony.
"We provided experts. The other side brought in activists to try to save face. They admitted that they’ve known about these ballot problems," she said.
Narrow defeat
In the Arizona gubernatorial race, Democrat Katie Hobbs emerged victorious by only about 17,000 votes in an election that involved a ballot printer malfunction in the state's largest county. Although the Republican candidate does not claim that the alleged fraud cost her the election, she believes that problems with the system may have contributed to the results. Lake further claims that the whole thing was deliberate manipulation.
This is precisely why the Republican insists on a "fair and transparent" election process that will allow the citizens' decision to be determined with certainty. "A significant majority of voters no longer trust the outcomes of elections in Arizona. A functioning republic cannot exist for long under these circumstances," Kari Lake endorsed via retweet.
