Amazon restores ad spending on X after previously scaling back over hate speech concerns

Apple and other major companies are studying at the highest level the return of their advertising in the wake of Trump's victory and in the face of the new social climate.

Amazon has increased the number of contracted ads on X after pulling them less than a year ago, citing hate speech on the platform, formerly known as Twitter. Along with Jeff Bezos' company, Apple is also considering reinvesting in Elon Musk's social network after previously withdrawing.

The turn coincides with Musk's prominent role and growing influence in the new administration, and is not exclusive to these two giants, but more and more companies are studying putting money into the South African tycoon's social network at the highest level.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Amazon's CEO himself, Andy Jassy, was involved in the decision, which could lead to the company spending considerably more on X.

Musk, a radical advocate of free speech

Amazon, Apple and other major companies stopped advertising on X in the midst of a push for Musk's free speech concept, which ended with - and publicly denounced - censorship by previous management in collusion with the Biden Administration and other governments.

A radical defender of free speech, the South African tycoon bet on measures such as community feedback in the face of fact checkers, something widely criticized at the time, but which is being copied by his main rival, Meta.

Musk challenged brands that pulled X advertising

Musk was defiant when big advertisers began pulling advertising, going so far as to assure in an interview that brands that pulled their ads from his platform can "go f--k themselves."

Later would come a federal antitrust lawsuit against an advertising trade group and several major brands, including candy company Mars and CVS Health, accusing the group of illegally boycotting the platform.
